🏀 Hunting the NBA Finals: Nuggets-Heat Series Bets
Chris Dell, one of our betting analysts and handicappers, has some thoughts on a couple of bets he likes for the NBA Finals.
Miami Heat +2.5 series spread at FanDuel -138
Denver Nuggets -1.5 series spread at DraftKings -160
Miami +2.5 covers every possible outcome other than Denver in 5 or 4.
Denver -1.5 covers Denver in 5 or 4.
Over 5.5 games, on the other hand, omits four options: Miami in 5 or 4, Denver in 5 or 4. In lieu of the over 5.5, playing Miami +2.5 at a slightly better number (-138 vs. -140) would be preferred. Denver in 6 would win both of these bets, but playing Miami +2.5 would also cover Miami winning in case of an overall upset or injuries to Nikola Jokic.
This gives multiple opportunities to increase your position as the series goes on from either side.
*All odds are subject to change.
⚾️ Hunting the MLB: Buy-Low Angles on Baseball Futures
Betting Predators MLB analyst Dalton Brown sees value in the MLB futures market.
One that he really likes is the San Diego Padres to make the playoffs at -120. This is only for them to make the playoffs, not win the division, which would be higher odds. This team in the preseason was -220 to make the playoffs. And they were pretty much even with the Dodgers atop their division (NL West) in terms of expectations. That talent has not disappeared. It just has not quite performed to expectation yet.

☝️Number of the Day: 52.8%
52.38%. This number should be all sports bettors are thinking about. 52.38% is what you need to win to just break even. We know what you are thinking: That’s basically 50%, a flip of a coin. I’ve watched sports my whole life. Surely, I can pick games at least at a 53% clip. Maybe you are right. For a short period of time, you may even bet correctly at a much higher rate and get to toss bills in the air like Money Floyd Mayweather. But over time, the vig gets you. —Steve Rieder, NFL, Betting Predators
🧠 Sports Betting Tip
Bet lines early — or late.
When the lines are posted, the sharps analyze the lines and pounce on any perceived value. With such a limited handle, the books usually adjust the lines very quickly in reaction, which means the value is only available for a very short period of time. In order to combat this, sports bettors should be ready to read the market, identify value, and bet early. —Steve Rieder, NFL, Betting Predators
🕰️ This Week in Sports History
If you grew up in the ‘80s, Mel Allen and “This Week in Baseball” was must-watch TV. Forty-six years ago, “This Week in Baseball” made its debut on May 31, 1977. The groundbreaking show delighted fans across four decades. Allen was the first host, and the Hall of Fame broadcaster narrated the program until his death in 1996 at the age of 83. Thanks to YouTube, the closest thing we have to a modern-day time machine, we can watch the whole first season of “This Week in Baseball.” How about that?
